The vast majority of my experience is from US tournament play. With a few exceptions, this is an incredibly friendly, helpful, classy, all around great group of people.

I began to attend lots of events starting in 2006 and only a handful prior to that, so I was not a familiar face. While I ultimately won the ABT that year and became rather well known, in the beginning nobody had the slightest clue who I was. So I was in a great position to be a nobody and really experience how everyone acts to the average new player that walks through the door. I expected to be swimming amongst sharks. I assumed why would the top players of the game waste their time talking to me? I discovered dolphins. I discovered selfless individuals who loved backgammon and were willing to speak to anyone. Awesome group of people.

I try to set the same example for the next average guy that walks through the door.
