OK, I see that offloading the 6-point bears no risk right now. But blue's problem is to take down the midpoint without getting hit, and white's timing seems adequate enough that blue will be forced off the midpoint before white will have to weaken his position. Hence I thought that 7/3*/1 does two good things at the same time: 1) Cover the ace blot, which otherwise will be a risk for any future hit, and 2) put white on the bar, which gives blue the chance to run from the midpoint should white dance. If 6/4 6/2 is better than, or close to 7/3*/1, I think I learn something new here.
