I agree on all accounts.
One big reason touch move will never be popular is because of online play, where players are free to do as much shuffling of checkers as they wish. The habits and tendencies developed online will naturally carry over into live play.
I'd expect the equipment to change (electronic boards that track moves, cubing, turns, etc., with internal clocks, scoring, and even match recording) before touch play is adopted. I'd also guess that someone will come out with a collapsible baffle box (perhaps they are already? I don't know.) that fits right inside the board and that BBs will one day be considered part of a proper backgammon set the way cups are now.
