The offensive deuce point is not really good for priming anyway. It's typically better thought of as a home-board point that is good for attacking.
Stepping up with 24/22(2) does help thwart any attack that the opponent might want to launch, but stepping up is not as urgent as it would be after a priming play like 8/5 6/5 or 8/4 6/4 or 13/10 13/9. You have the freedom to pursue a more aggressive game plan.
