Tables to Improve Your Game

Kleinman addresses this very question in "The Prime Leaping Problem" from Vision Laughs at Counting. In a sequence of math that is beyond my understanding, he derives the following formula for escaping a 5-prime when not at the edge.
X = 36(11+c) / 11(2+c)
X is mean shakes to escape
c is number of shakes to reach the edge.
So, needing a 1 and 6 to escape, you would plug in a value of 9 for c (Note the roll 16 escapes so the number of shakes to the edge is 9)
X = 36 (11+9) / 11 (2+9)
X = 720 / 121
X = 5.95 shakes
Bob Koca appears to be right, though again, I don't understand why!
