Match Equity Table or Match Probability Table?

In Response To: Match Equity Table or Match Probability Table? (Paul Weaver)

If I sit down to a money game for $10 a point, at the beginning of the game, my winning chances are 50%. Isn't my equity, at that point, worth $5?

If I sit down in a tournament and the prize for winning the match is X (X could be a higher chance to win the tournament and $5000.00), and I paid $200 to enter the tournament, at the beginning of the match my winning chances are 50%, but isn't my equity at that point $100?

Now, after I win my first round match, assuming half the field is gone, at the beginning of the next match my equity is probably worth $200 (after removing the vig and adding in any added money there might be).

So what we have here is purely semantics and purely a question of how you look at it.

Anyway, since I know you to be an extremely intelligent person who is very likely to be right, I intend to use the name that most of us understand, even though it might be technically incorrect. (There are those who argue that my lap top should not be called that since I seldom put it on my lap, and that my cell phone is really a mobile device since it is so much more than just a phone, but I'm not going to change what I call them.)
