Jacoby rule?

Good question, Tom. As I understand it, the Jacoby rule was probably motivated by the ethos of gambling. Gamblers want constant action and deplore downtime. The Jacoby rule prevents clueless players from playing out a boring win to the bitter end because they mistakenly think they are too good to double. But from the point of view of the strategy-game expert, the Jacoby rule is just an annoying special exception that distorts the game for no real benefit. Logically, then, it would seem that if one is trying to distance oneself from gambling, then the Jacoby rule ought to be dropped. (That cheering you hear in the background is neilkaz in the back row, pretending that he's taking a break from backgammon.)
On a related note, what about the term "cash" to mean doubling when the opponent has a drop? I find it to be a very convenient verb, but if "money game" is taboo then presumably so is "cash."
