Early checkerplay decision

This is a tough one. I do not pretend to know what is right.
John O'Hagan likes the 4pt. I like hit and split, 6/2* 24/22.
Making the 4pt violates Magriel's Six-Apart Rule, found in his book and paraphrased here: Don't make points that are six pips apart on your own side of the board (it is an inefficient use of your checkers because points six pips apart cannot both be a part of the same six-prime). In other words, owning the 4pt and 10pt simultaneously is less than ideal, especially when you have given up your 8pt.
Making the 4pt also leaves a ton of shots, far too many for me to attempt to count 'em all. (Where is Sam Pottle, the certified shot counter when we need him?)
Hitting on the 2pt duplicates deuces (it seems very few people know the word "deuceplication," which means "duplication of deuces"), keeps the outfield blocking structure, leaves fewer shots than the other play and gives a better chance of making an advanced anchor.
