Early checkerplay decision

White has too many ways to improve his position if given free rein so I think that the tempo hit 6/2* is necessary. It also has the benefit of unstacking the 6-point. For the 2, there's either 13/11 or 24/22. I like 24/22 since Blue is on the defensive here, and it makes more sense to use the tempo to go for an anchor than to try for a blitz.

The only other play that looks viable is making the 4-point with 8/4 6/4. The 4-point is the 4-point, and 6/4 unstacks the 6, but that's about all I can see going for this move. It still gives White free rein to improve, as well as a double direct shot at that blot. Plus, even if Blue isn't hit, look at what Blue is faced with next turn. He has to clean up his blot, and try to make an anchor, and improve the flexibility of his forward position. Too many tasks to do at once.
