In Response To: The Best Novice Player in the World (Phil Simborg)

I think Lyle is to be congratulated and recognized for his play, and enviable record, at his age.

However, I think it unfair to him and to others to call him the best novice in the world. Our 'world' of backgammon -- the known and experienced world of any US player -- is fairly limited in scope.

Thus, it is unfair to other deserving young and/or inexperienced players all over the world to cavalierly award such a moniker.

Further, I think it is unfair to assign such a burden of expectations to a twelve year old. Let him enjoy the game and grow into the game without such pressures.
