David "I felt that there was one big problem with the Holland rule which was more important than anything else. It was too difficult to explain to first time players. When a new player comes to a club and you have to spend a lot of time explaining the tournament's rules, it decreases the chances of getting them back. Explaing Crawford is enough. Holland was too much. I remember trying to explain it to people and losing them on the spot."
Neil replies...exactly ! And also there were issues with counting rolls and the occasional newb who thought that you could never cube before two rolls..ie after something like 64R 55A dance.
When explaining Crawford to newbs it is good to explain that they can only not cube in the NEXT game when their opp is 1 away and AFTER that they can cube whenever they desire.
