I think people underestimate the impact of the Holland rule.

For starters, you can throw ALL your match equity tables awaym and start from scratch. It will take quite some time for people to adjust to the value-changes of gammons and doubles at various match scores, since reaching the Crawford game (or preventing your opponent from doing so), no longer has the same value. These adjustments will propagate to almost all other (uneven) scores. The changes will be huge compared to the small margins we seen being discussed now, when someone performs huge rollouts on the newest bots, and discovers new gammon-rates at various scores.

If the rule is a good idea or not, I'm not really certain about, but it will be a BIG change, that's for sure.

The one thing that I'm certain about, however, is that THIS is one rule that are so fundamental to matchplay, equities and strategy, that we should NEVER split into two rules set for intermediates and experts! How would you feel having to start all over again, learning a new ME-table, once you make the jump in flights? This would be a disaster IMHO.

But I do think, that the Holland rule is so easy to learn/understand, that it would not be a problem for any beginner/intermediate anyway. If they can learn the Crawford rule then the Holland rule is straight forward from there!
