First of all I should correct a statement I made earlier. With (min=1296 max=46656 jsds=3) I get about 5% not 3%. The 3% figure was for (min=5184 max=46656 jsds=3).

For (min=1296 max=46656 jsds=4) I'm getting about 0.2%.

By the way, in email correspondence with Doug Zare, I learned that he flagged this issue back when GNU Backgammon first introduced the feature, recommending going from 2 jsds to 3 jsds. Could be that it's time to start thinking about 4 jsds if we still want the early-exit feature.
