I'd want to have the ace covered.

I think, if the ace is not covered, the most difficult plays occur after a few rolls, if White does not enter; at some point Black needs to switch from aggressive bearing off and going for the second checker to playing more safely, but I find getting the moment of this changeover right very difficult.
