I hit 6/off 6/2*, because if I can close White out I am much more likely to win a gammon, and because if White anchors on the deuce, White can build the board and be much more dangerous in case of later hits.

An important consideration is the strength of White's board. Here it is very weak, so if we get hit back we do not have trouble entering and coming around while continuing the attack. BTW, the hit would be even clearer if there would be no third checker on the ace, and if we'd only have a 4 to play (so no checker taken off) - more material to attack with.
