The circles I leaned to play in used to refer to it as whompin', as in I be whompin'. A double hit was often called a whomp stomp. I've even heard hitting referred to as a capture. Bump, hit, whomp. . . checkers, men, stones. Same difference. Regional differences I'd guess.
