The Case Against Rebuys

So much was said, and so much to say about rebuys!!
In my experience of TD, rebuys ARE very popular, in all segments (strong and not strong players)
I cannot answer every comment here, but I will object to some of Phil, who wrote:
1. with rebuys, it is possible that the winner of the event will not be the one with the best record (...) the player with more money to spend is favored
I don't believe that ANY event is (or should be) designed to be 'fair' towards the very best players (or any other category, for the matter) I do not see a Backgammon tournament to be a model of democracy or fairness.
And finally, is it fair that the player with more money has an advantage? well, more money ALWAYS means an edge in a world ruled by money.
Are Backgammon tournaments part of this world? I think yes, because money is involved, and in a substantial way.
The value of 1$ is not the same to everyone, and there is nothing you can do about it.
So I would paraphrase Tomawaky here: these tournaments are what they are, and they wouldn't be the same without money; Indeed, the same case could be debated on Entry Fee: Is it fair that a player who wants to play, but only has 25 $ cannot play a 500$ entry event? :)

Of course you would, Daniel!! But that's because you are (I assume) a strong player.
TD's job is really really not to ensure that best players will win more prizes.
I see it more as to ensure everyone their fair chance. And yes, in a rebuy event, having more money to spend gives a better probability to enter the money, but certainly not a better equity..
