Over the board, I played 24/18. This play gives Black 6s, 4s and 1s to hit on the 7pt, 5s to hit on the 1pt and 3s to anchor. All six of Black's doubles are very strong.
In the early game, when both players still have a one-point board, if you are stacked on your 6pt (with five checkers) and also stacked on your 8pt (with four or more checkers), it is often correct to play an awkward 5 by hitting 6/1*, if possible.
