i don't believe there's a lot of difference between the highly disparate plays. 6/2* works really well when not hit and it's not tha bad if it gets hit as stephan has no extra home board points. 13/12 is practically free, since the hitting 65 is duped. splitting to the 21 doesn't look like that great a benefit since there are so many opponent checkers in the zone. OTB, i think i'd go with 2 down since that unstacks and gets ready to prime and that's the greatest source of spares (and having spare mid checkers isn't particularlly valuable in this position). stick probably went for 2* being more flamboyant.
