I wonder if you're really asking for the largest possible value of m – n, where
m = number of hittable blots after the correct play, and
n = minimum number of hittable blots you can legally leave.
Of course one still needs to define "hittable blot." An obvious definition is a blot that your opponent could hit on the very next roll. However, maybe the definition should be extended to include other blots. For example if your opponent has a closed board (or even just a strong board) and you have other blots strewn along on your opponent's potential march of death, then maybe they should count, even if they can't be hit on the very next roll.
