Oh, I'm just asking a question to provoke our many astute readers into providing intelligent and interesting answers. Chuck's recently posted position made me think of it. You certainly could turn the question into a puzzle. I'm wondering whether games could be analyzed, to see when Number of Blots = X, how often the best play leaves X+1, X+2, X+3, X-1, X-2, etc. blots -- and whether such analysis would be of more than marginal interest.
