A question and a puzzle

That's interesting. I would have guessed that once having played the 6 (8/2) a bot or server (whatever) would make you take it back before playing 8/5/off. I don't have any real opinion whether it should be that way, just that I was under the impression that it was common programming practice.
As for the 43, if there were a "rewind" standard in place (which would probably address etiquette rather than incur a penalty), I doubt I would say anything to an opponent for nudging a half move 24/21 to 24/20 (unless they were making a habit of it), but as a matter of setting a good example I wouldn't do it myself.
Rewind is a bit better than what we have now, and an offsetting rule (checkers high on the pips for candidate plays), as others have suggested, would be another improvement. Further, I prefer the one-shuffle rule (limit of one shuffle per turn), and best of all touch move (or motion move) -- it hurts my eyes and disrupts my analytic process to watch people shuffle checkers, either as a player or spectator.
