I disagree with the assessment of the opponent's position as 'nearly hopless' and that he needs to 'collapse further'. Technically, (at least to me), he hasn't collapsed at all. He has made his ace-point, yes, but he actually has no dead checkers. Making the 9 is clear in order to hopefully force him to really kill some checkers.
I can recall many times losing from a position like this where the opponent has made his deep home points first. Obviously he'd prefer to have the 654 instead of 321, but he still has legitimate winning chances after a hit.
