This was one of the four positions I covered in my GammonVillage column titled "Danish Props", 10 December 2003. It is also in my CD book which you can order from GV whether or not you are a member. If you are a member, you can read the column online and still comment about it in the forum there also. Here is what Dan Murphy and Karsten Nielsen told me at the time, and some of what I wrote about it. The rollout result was kind of squirrely, but my interpretation of it then and now is that with the cube in use by an alert and competent player, it's a small take.
This position is technically a take, say the rollouts and also the Danes. Karsten Nielsen and the rollouts agree that White's take depends on his ability and willingness to redouble at exactly the right time when things go his way. I would add that his take becomes much stronger than the rollout below indicates, if his containment skills exceed those of Snowie. With some truly world-class players, this may be the case. However, the average player should probably let this one go, since it will be very difficult to play it well and one false move can quickly negate all the equity advantage he had.
....
According to Dan Murphy, this position first appeared in the December 1998 issue of DBgF's magazine, Gammon. It wasn't proposed as a proposition at that time, just as a position from a match, with a question about whether it was a double. Karsten Nielsen discussed it in the following issue (February 1999), opining that it was a take.
They both now believe you can give a weak player a point to take this, but that otherwise the swings are too great to make it worthwhile. This rollout indicates that while the take is marginally correct, their playing time would probably better spent simply playing from the opening position, which would usually give them a far greater advantage both per-game and per-hour.
