5/off 5/1 clears a point, and leaves a position that is completely safe next turn. 6/2 6/1 leaves a shot on 62 next turn, and does not clear a point. Unless 6/2 6/1 is dramatically safer after next turn, clearing the 5 should be right. And 5/off 5/1 is safer, but not dramatically so - some 2s will force a gap, 1s will leave and odd ended position, so 6/1 6/2 is not that much safer after next roll. Clear the 5!
