I've been learning the value as of late of stepping under the gun with two checkers (U) to provoke contact and hope to come out of the exchange by either anchoring on one of them, or hitting a return shot. It helps in those situations to have a decent offensive position to make any return hit costly to the opponent.

This seems to be one of those situations. Black is poised to do something good here and by making the action play, we hope to do something good too. The fact that there's simply no decent alternative makes it clear.
