One of my opponents actually faced this choice yesterday. They hit and slotted the bar point which I felt was wrong. Saving a few shots isn't worth slotting the wrong point while stripping the eight. I would play 24-20*, 6-5 which I believe is W - Wild. Also note that entering sixes don't play well when they fail to hit but fours do.
