Now I don't feel too stupid for asking the question, as I'm not the only one that doesn't have a clear name for whatever the hell we end up with to decide if its a take or a drop.

I think you can do you calculations Stick's way or my way and get exactly the same result, and I am not unhappy that I do things differently than someone from Ohio.

Bottom line is that unless someone comes up with a better handle, I will call my number, after subtracting gammons from wins, the Net Value of the position.

And if the net value is lower than the take point, you drop unless you are playing Stick (probably right to take deeper just to piss him off when you win).
