UCLA Backgammon Club

Announcing the new UCLA Backgammon Club.
Joe Russell, Justin Nunez, and I have helped start this new student group to encourage backgammon education. We meet weekly on Thursdays from 4 to 6 PM with the chess club in the student recreation center (John Wooden Center). We also help advertise on campus in the afternoons prior to the meetings.
We are currently getting anywhere from 3 to 10 students interested per meeting. We have started regular tournaments and giving master points to encourage attendance. We also gave a $10 gift card to the student store as a prize for winning the first tournament.
One challenge we are currently facing is that the club does not have any equipment and we have thus far not been able to get funding from the university. So the students can not play unless we show up with our boards. We are looking for people who may be interested in donating old boards, equipment, dice, and books. Other suggestions are welcome and encouraged.
We thank Jason Lee who has made a generous donation of a copy of Walter Trice's Backgammon Boot Camp. We plan to use this as a prize. Anyone else interested in making a similar contribution, please e-mail me; we would greatly appreciate it.
We also thank Steve Sax for attending one of the meetings and giving lessons to the students.
