Volunteering the shot in order to race is certainly a contender. If you have to pay, now certainly is the best time to do so. It looks close, but I'd feel better about it if I knew that hitting a return off the roof would be gin. But with the blot on blue's 2 and 7 points, it is not gin by any means. So I'm inclined to wait.

So of the pay-later plays, which is best? I observe that white has no reason to volunteer a shot. He'll either clear or hold. And that means that blots or points in our homeboard are not an immediate concern. The concern is maximum flexibility to maintain race, maintain timing and be able to make points quickly if necessary. Of all the options, 10/1 looks right. All the spares are exactly where you'd want them.
