You own the cube and are in it to the end. You're down 40 pips in the race. So your game plan is get a shot, hit a shot, win the game. To do that, you want to maximize contact, but not get gammoned. That means keep the lurker on the 24 point and keep your anchor and keep contact on your opponent's mid with your own mid. The only way to do all three of these things is to leave a blot on your midpoint. You can do this while also making your 2 point to ensure that when you hit the shot you also win the game. White's homeboard position is fragmented while your homeboard is quite threatening, so you don't have too much fear here of being hit, and while you'd prefer not to be, it does potentially offer you other ways to win as compensation.
