In Response To: Elderly players and time clocks (Rich Munitz)

I'm afraid the discussion has devolved to concern hypothethical inexperienced inarticulate old folks.

Don't know the rules? Read them before the tournament starts. Don't know how to play with a clock? Practice before the tournament starts. Have physical problems that may need accommodation? Tell the director before the tournament starts. Goodness gracious, before I spend dollars on airfare, hotel and entry fee to play in a clocked tournament, whose responsibility is it to ensure that I know what I'm doing when I get there? Really now, how much practice would I need to find out that I'm having a problem with the time control? That I would play and say nothing until it's clear I will lose on time and then expect the rules bent in my favor, doesn't seem right to me.
