Congratulations, Mary!

I have nothing but the greatest respect for Mary and Carol, and I know they both know that. I am thrilled to see women excelling at this largely male dominated game and would like to see more women attracted to the game. These kinds of accomplishments by two of the top woman players in the game help to encourage that. I will bet that many woman out there were proud to see fellow female mamabear Mary win, and that her gender did not get overlooked by them. Did anyone happen to notice Danika Patrick win at Indy? I'll bet all that publicity goes a long way to telling other woman that its ok to have an interest in racing cars and ok to become really good at it. If some 17 year old wunderkind high school student of yours came along and won an event, do you think nobody should draw attention to their age? It would be awesome to be able to draw attention to that. Hold them out there as a role model for others. I agree you don't want to take this classification too far, but I see more positive than negative here. There are after all ladies events here in there in backgammon, or mixed doubles events or battle of the sexes events. Gender is (like it or not) an official backgammon demographic of sorts.
Perhaps my joking comment about cute woman may be viewed as sexist by some, and I apologize to anyone who may have been offended. But the reality is that backgammon is a fabulous social game. Meeting members of the opposite gender is something that 90% of the population are interested in at some point in their lives. Finding ways to draw more woman will also help draw more men.
