Elderly players and time clocks

I was referring to the scene where Mr. Miyagi tells Daniel you do karate yes, or karate no...no halfway measures. Maybe Yoda said something similar?
Regarding the option of an unclocked final: I think another reason to disallow it is that in a backgammon culture that has become numbers-obsessed, giving the finalists more time would allow them to presumably have lower error rates, making for apples-to-oranges comparisons with, say, the other semi- and quarter-finalists in the same tourney, as well as other players elsewhere playing clocked matches including clocked finals. By now you know precisely, not to mention accurately, what I think of this simplistic reduction of a complex game to a bunch of three-decimal-place numbers, especially stand-alone error rates as opposed to relative ones within a match, but I also know how much you (and a lot of other people who should know better) do care >> (What is this, baseball? What is our equivalent of ERAs and RBIs?)
/abuse of Stick for today
BTW do you have a new phone yet, or has the old one started to work again?
