Bold v Safe criteria point to a safe play, and while hitting in these types of positions turns out right more often than I think, I'd still go with the safe play. My game plan is to get the straggler out and around the board, or to build my own board in anticipation of doing so. Breaking the midpoint and creating two new blots to worry about is a distraction from that plan, even if it does come with a tempo. Blue will often have a chance to hit next turn, when he has his full roll available to him. With his strong board and high anchor, White is the one who should be looking to mix things up. Blue should oblige only if it's clearly in his best interests to do so. It's not clear to me whether it is or not, so I'll stick with the safe play.
