OK, that didn’t come out right. Not only my statement declares me as a pompous ass, it also directly negates my original point. Let me clarify a couple of things. I do know match equity table and can calculate take points given enough time at the table, but I must have also said that I rarely use it effectively since I have difficulty estimating winning chances to compare against the numbers from the table. I often overestimate my winning chance which explains why I take so many bad cubes. Regarding the blood part, it’s neither a defense nor crying discrimination. It is obvious that most people who grew up playing in Iran, Turkey, Israel, Greece, etc. (a huge population of no cube players) are not very strong in handling the cube – I am no exception. Even my checker play, about which I feel confident once every leap year, is not consistent enough to place me in a high level. So in a championship bracket like that, I was an underdog in every round with the largest spread in the finals against Neil.
The main point I was trying to make originally is that there is more to playing this game than what the rollouts tell me. Two people I respect for understanding the “other factors” are Ray and MJ. I will continue to learn from them.
