21$ (Slot 13-11, 6-5) is tempting and probably reasonable. Splitting with 24-23, is less effective facing the fourth checker on the eight point. For example, it doesn't stop the opponent from making two new points with 11 & 33 as it does in the opening position. There are subtle differences between 52S-21$ and 51S-21$ such as 52S-21$-44 which hits twice, 11 which hits and makes the five point and 53 which misses but makes the three point. These make slotting more attractive after 51S than 52S. I imagine it is close, but until I see a rollout to the contrary, I will play S - even though slotting is more fun.
I know that hitting on the three is close in the GNU rollouts. I don't like it. The tempo is low value since the opener doesn't have many non-doublets which make points. Making the three isn't great. The play's chief advantage seems to be that it doesn't leave targets elsewhere.
I have an inconclusive GNU Supremo 5k of this position which I will post after Stick posts XG.
