It would be somewhat interesting, Joe, to roll out every position where you ended "truncated" your games and compare the evaluations to the rollouts, to see how accurate the evaluations were.
I played Gnubg to the end 24 times and won 19 of them. Seems about right.
About the "automatic" redouble to four: I believe Gnubg does not redouble "optional redoubles" -- position for which it judges ND equity and D/T equity to be equal. XG apparently works the same way, but someone could confirm that by looking at a position in which XG does not redouble and see that ND=D/T. The bot is not trying to trick you into a bad take later. It's not that smart. It simply does not see any market losing sequences. Gnubg does not immediately redouble to 4 after you have advanced to the 23 point (1-1 3-1 4-1 5-1), advanced to the 3 point (2-1 3-2 3-3), or escaped (6-1 4-3 5-3 6-3).
