I think adjustments for skill differences are often overdone. Here, I think taking and recubing makes sense. Dropping means winning a series of games that need to be played until the end; if you take, recube and win, you are at -3 -2, trailing, but that is not an easy score for a stronger player. If you get an early advantage, you can double aggressively, and your opponent won't like that.

I have never seen you play, so cannot judge.
