Because the weaker player, trailing, will know to cube early. I think -2 -4 ahead is also a difficult score for the leader. Maybe I should clarify what I mean with difficult; winning substantially more match from a given score than based on the assumption of equal strength. I think leading -3 -2 or -4 -2, the stronger player does not get a whole lot extra wins; from -3 -3, for example, more extra wins than from leading -4 -2. And more extra wins from trailing -4 -2 than from -3 -3.
