A good read

The replies I read don't seem to be helpful for an intermediate player I guess.
Here's how I parse the position. The first thing to check is how strong the attack is. Number of checkers on the bar? One. Homeboard points? The 6 point, 5 point, and 3 point. Number of attacking checkers in the zone? Ten. Anchor? No. If you as the defender had a completely undeveloped position, then ten checkers in the zone and a three-point board with one on the bar and no anchor would often be a pass. I think the reason many intermediates drop this kind of position is that they stop their analysis here and don't look at the rest of the board. The defender's home board is typically the most important defensive resource. With only a three-point board, the blitz is unlikely to proceed to completion without some loose hitting. If the defender can hit back and greet the attacker's blot with a strong board then that is extremely important. Here, the five-point alone might be enough of a defensive resource to make this a take for money. Add to that the race lead, the four-prime, the score...it can't be close to a drop.
