Yes..we agree and to be honest I don't think this is that difficult a problem and the only real decision is how to play the 4 after slotting.
Running when far behind in the race and letting the opp attack with 4's,3's and 1's surely looks wrong since even if you survive or get missed you still have to contain that checker. Therefore, keep the anchor and some longer term hits from it and try to contain that lone checker. Thus 10/4 becomes the 6.
Now we have to decide on the 4 and make the decision to cover and leave a crushing escaping 6 or to slot and hope to cover the full prime later. If you slot, the some of the opp's hitting rolls don't seem to be as crushing as if you close the point leaving him a 6 and a hitting 42 forces a new blot somewhere. If the opp hits with 23, 22 or 21 he remains behind a 4 prime and may suffer a counter attack.
It would seem that 9/5 is the best 4. .. neilkaz ..
