Why say no to have your matches recorded?

It comes down to the question of how important it is to have a mechanism in place to prevent fraud. Banking by internet is O.K. because I have some confidence that if there is an error then I will just be able to complain and have my complaint resolved. My personal finances are so piddling by the bank's standards that they will prefer to settle my complaint rather than have me kick up a fuss, even if there is no way to prove what really happened one way or the other.
Voting is a different matter. It is easy to get complacent, living in a country where major political instability is not a serious threat. However, if there were massive electronic voter fraud, perpetrated by an insider at the company that manufactures electronic voting machines, and there were no paper backup, it is possible that violence might break out. The stakes are higher, which is what makes voting different from banking.
Now, I guess backgammon tournaments are closer to the banking end of the spectrum than to the voting end of the spectrum. If someone were to rig the electronic dice or something, in such a way that they could not be traced, then people would get upset, but probably we could live with the consequences. I still prefer to be conservative, but I grant that the case isn't as compelling as with voting.
