I think it is fine if a player wants to offer money to a calcutta buyer as you described. But, there is no obligation. There is no contract or agreement between the player and the buyer. Its like sports betting. Would a football team have an obligation to someone who bets a 5 point line? The better knows that the team may have different objectives other than covering the spread. That's the risk that the buyer takes. A BG calcutta is no different. If the player wants to focus on the Masters or a chou or anything else, that's their business.
