Well, I think I explained myself pretty clearly prior to the sentence you quote. Maybe I'm wrong. In any event, I hope my point that it is very rarely true that "your opponent is definitely going to take next turn" is not lost in all of this.

In a position that is a correct early double at 2a4a, there are almost always going to be crushing sequences after which no one but an absolute maniac would take. Since the possibility of gammons is what typically justifies an early cube at this score, it's hard to construct a position where you have reasonable gammon chances and yet there is no chance of a crushing sequence.
