I haven't read all the posts, so please forgive any repetition. I wasnt able to come to the tourn due to family commitments, but I find the format appealing, and congratulate Rory (and any others involved) on creativity. If the deep pocket issue is really a problem, then the obvious solution is to reduce the entry fee (and the re-buys).

On the Calcutta, I think it's just a matter of "bidder beware". You should know your horse and his/her propensity to rebuy/skip LC, etc. However, all these variations probably discourage bidding (especially for groups of players), so it's probably in the TD's best interest to minimize the variations.
