Here is some evidence of a significant odd/even effect in checker play (though there may be another explanation)... [3-ply and 4-ply data omitted]
But these are not necessarily odd-even effects, the difference could just be there because 4-ply analyzes moves deeper and therefore probably better. It would be another story if you had 2-ply rollout data would match the 4-ply rollouts but not the 3ply, like in the example Klaus gave.
Yup, I agree. That's why I included the parenthetical caveat.
