General comment about BGO etiquette

I have to say that I am somewhat disturbed at the tone of the reactions I got to my post.

I can see how you thought that -- my reaction was probably the same as yours when I first read everything, but when I went back and looked again, I think you may have just misinterpreted the tone.

I'm a little concerned about what kind of atmosphere this creates on BGO.

This is a general, long-standing problem on BGO.

Now, I realize that I can be obnoxious myself sometimes, and deserve to be put in my place.

Really, I've found you to be among the most even keeled, polite, friendly people on BGO. I'm not just saying that just to be mr. nice guy.

However, there have been other times when I have presented ideas that I knew to be correct (mostly because they had a strong mathematical or statistical flavor, and there I know I am on firm ground), and the reception I got didn't reflect the intrinsic merit of the ideas but rather my social status.

Maybe... maybe this is because people don't cotton on very well to people who assert technical authority.

I don't care about any of this for my own sake because I'm going to continue postwhoring anyway

Now you and I have a problem, since I'm right on your ass in the PostWhore Standings.
