When the neural nets bots came out, they were considered strong or very strong. I read they could be beat by steering for very massive backgames, and then getting into nice double / beaver / raccoon / ardvark sequences. I tried this, and it works (many games played this way before I became bored with it). Through playing this out, I have a feel for this type of position, and it is a very clear drop. What is going to affect your chances to roll the snake forward is the number of checkers working - 15 is ideal, but if you put 1 or 2 checkers out of play, say in the homeboard, that will affect your winning chances a great deal.
