I realize that my thinking here is likely contrary to the mainstream, but I disagree and think that people in general overestimate the importance. Seriously, when is the last time that you saw a position like this in serious world class tourney play?

I reckon just about never. That being said, XG from my experience is at least as good as other bots in normal commonly occuring backgame situations..ie with decent timing and a decent board, however, it could likely gain from improvement in seriously busted backgames (as GNU most certainly needs improvement there).
